Founded in 1999 by the choreographer Gemma and Djamel Mellouk, the One Thousand and One Nights Company is a seldom encountered grouping of seven professional dancers and four musicians, the El Darbak ensemble, brought together by their common passion for Egyptian music and dance From London to Geneva via Paris and its mythical La Cigale Theatre, the One Thousand and One Nights Company’s performances have elevated oriental dance to an art form. They have managed to breathe new life into oriental dance, giving it a unique style with just the right dose of technique and style.
